Rick Borup has been working in the FoxPro community for years. In recent years, he has shown Mercurial as his version control system of choice but at this year's Southwest Fox, he'll be showing how developers can take advantage of Git. He's also got a new tool under his belt - a little database that makes sense for FoxPro developers who are looking for a fast and easy (and portable) DB. Listen in and see how Rick got involved in the community and also how these tools may make your world a bit easier. |

Is Lianja the next best tool for FoxPro developers looking to leverage their knowledge in the world of desktop, mobile and web applications? In this show, we talk to Barry Mavin, the creator of Lianja and Hank Fay, a long-time FoxPro developer who is looking very hard at Lianja for line of business applications. As a note, attendees of Southwest Fox 2012 will be receiving a Standard edition of Lianja! Note: This episode features a slightly different style of production that I've been listening to on 99% Invisible, a great podcast by Roman Mars. It's not exactly the same but when listening to early cuts of this episode, I found it really worked well. Let me know what you think. |

When speaking about VFPx at last year's Southwest Fox conference, it became evident that there aren't a lot of avenues for finding out how to use various pieces of VFPx. So I'm creating videos designed to showcase VFPx components, starting with the Control Renamer.
If you have ever wanted to rename a control in a class or form but were hesitant because of missing other code references, the Control Renamer is definitely a tool you want to try.
Now, there are lots of areas where new options can be added into this tool - but they are primarily "extras" like setting color settings or some logging.
Check it out below!

Here's another "discussion" from Southwest Fox, all about how developers get the most out of their day and, er, shower.
Discussion with Cathy Pountney, Mike Yeager, Alan Stevens, Art Bertquist, Andrew MacNeill and others.
Enjoy.

Thu, 23 October 2008
I didn't want to do a full show on this little interview but wanted to put it into the stream because I think it's really valuable for developers to hear.
It's a discussion Alan Stevens and I had one morning at Southwest Fox 2008. It was held after his talk on Agile and I had some specific questions we wanted to get into. There is some background noise as we were talking outside at the breakfast table.
If you've never heard Alan speak, this is a great way of getting a feel for his sessions.
Enjoy!

At SWFox, there are a number of great sessions going on, most of which have the "please do not record or tape" - however, some, like this one, were open for all and everyone was told "you are on the Internet".
This show is the entirety of the VFPX Meeting session - a session hosted by Craig Boyd, Bo Durban, Rick Schummer and myself about how the community can get better involved with VFPX itself and some other suggestions at the type of things the community wants to see. Audio is a conference room is tough - but I've tried to increase it where needed so you can hear the people in the back row. Enjoy

Welcome back to the FoxShow! We've been offline for quite some time (last one was June 2006) but we're back and aiming to hit a new show at least once a month.
This particular show is a screencast of a cool new way for building web applications using FoxPro! (format is WMV - let me know if you prefer it in other formats) The audio may be a little off I'll be following this up with a regular podcast that includes part of the interview along with some other news items from the FoxPro community. As always, let me know how you enjoy the show. |

In show #39, Andrew MacNeill speaks with Kevin Cully about what he's got planned for FoxForward 2006, a conference being held in Alpharetta, Georgia from September 15-17, 2006.
More info is available <a href='http://www.foxforward.net">here</a>. The conference looks really good with a wide variety of sessions covering basic development techniques, Ajax and FoxPro, GDI+ along with some real "case study" type sessions on FoxPro and Wireless from John Harvey at the Shelby Co. Sheriff's office and Bill Sanders filling everyone in on how CollegeCon is going ( the VFP Intern project). Take a listen! All comments to foxshow@gmail.com. |

Sorry for the late show but I've been editing interviews. Rather than make an extra long show, Episode #35 features a part of my interview with John Petersen (YES! that JVP) about legal issues that developers need to be aware of.
The interview takes up most of the show (save for the opening and the ad) - he identifies very valuable issues for Visual FoxPro and other developers to be aware of.

I posted this on my own blog but I also wanted to make sure that if you wanted to take a peek at Dabo, the open-source database development environment written by VFPer's Ed Leafe and Paul McNett, you could see some of it here.
It uses Python and MySQL. The video is in Windows Media format - not exactly multi-platform ready - if you're on a new iPod, let me know and I'll put up a Quicktime version.
There's a lot more to it - but it's taking me forever to get this out of the hour long overview Ed gave me. The other pieces will be coming shortly. We'll be talking to them soon on the FoxShow as well - so if you have questions, shoot them my way and I'll be sure to ask when we do it.

One of the goals I've had for a long time is to try and keep the show under 30 minutes - ideally around twenty. As listeners know, this is incredibly difficult with interviews that typically last that long.
So what do you think? Should I separate interviews into their own "show" ( a la BuzzOutLoud model) and thus keep the shows down in length or keep them all in one big show.
It may really depend on your player. For example, when I use the Creative Muvo, it keeps track of where I am with each show and thus when I stop and restart, it picks up right where I left off. Other devices may not be so lucky.
Let me know.
